1st Place - Shirley Green "Gypsy's Light" Watercolor
Shirley Green is a multi-media artist working in watercolor, hot glass, jewelry, oil painting and sculpture. She lives in Woodside, CA and enjoys her studio with friends and students.
Shirley has been painting watercolor since 2001 and has been an artist for many years. She studied under the instruction of Sandy Delehanty, Joyce Faulknor, Judy Morris, Halycon Teed, Jane Hofstetter, Jan Pollard, Guy Magallanes, Arleta Pech and Susan Harrison-Tustain. She has won many awards and is a member of the Caliifornia Watercolor Society and the Sequoia Art Group.
Lilly's philosophy of painting is to guide people into the wonderful art world through their own eyes. Painting can be a lot of fun, a rewarding and wonderful career. It always excites her to see an empty, white canvas and with a few brush strokes what can develop. Painting since she was six, Lilly is following in the footsteps of her uncle who was a graphic artist. Lilly is a realistic painter working primarily in oils with her vibrant color and imagination. She gets inspiration from nature as a plein air artist and is influenced by years in New York, Hawaii and California. Lilly's creative side was enhanced by her art education at the State University of New York, Chaminade U. and the Academy of Art University, SF. She was fortunate to study with Dorothy Fitzgerald, Joyce Pike, Craig Nelson and Stefan Baumann. Lilly taught art in adult education and is a winner of many awards. She likes the challenge of painting and has earned signature membership with the Society of Western Artists and the Sequoia Art Group.
3rd Place - Will Maller "Ray" Oil
Will is a career artist from California where he specializes in the Western and Coastal Landscape, Plein Air and Figurative Traditions.
"I have had a love of the visual creative experience since childhood, with art being first a way of getting into trouble, then a way of staying out of trouble, then just a natural part of who I am. My work has always begun with observation and a representational impulse. Then on to the challenge of line, shape, value, and color, blended with design principles and varying degrees of abstraction to arrive at yet another compelling visualization. A new reality is created, one which begins with observation but proceeds in its own unique direction. My artistic efforts define a body of work that has a very personal reality. Fused into the drawing and paint media are both my struggle and delight in the creative process. Each painting begins as an invitation, proceeds as an adventure, and ends as a gift—whether a joy in itself or a lesson learned, whether just for me or to be shared with others. Then I wait patiently for that next invitation."
